July 18th, 2008 at 02:00:33 Correction to 2 mistakes I made. Appointment in Ghana was done at a different concert with Woody Shaw on trumpet, but video is here on YouTube too. It's one of the other great compostions from Jackie's Bag, which was recorded in '59 & '60. So this was 30 years later, not 20 as I wrote. Bad head for numbers.
July 18th, 2008 at 02:23:32 It's another great number from that album which he played at this concert too. It´s here on Youtube. Check it out.
July 18th, 2008 at 02:46:31 Appointment in ghana? Please explain more .
July 18th, 2008 at 03:09:30 Like someone said this tune is on Jackie's Bag, one hell of an album in no small part due to this number and Appointment in Ghana. But the only similarity is in the title and the brief outro of the head--20 some years later, this version of the tune is (understandably) in another dimension entirely. All I can say is MORE!!!
July 18th, 2008 at 03:32:29 Jackie McLean is a BAMF
July 18th, 2008 at 03:55:28 skeeve, miles doesn't only play long or half time passages, listen to stuff mid to late career miles and the chromatic/polytonal stuff comes almost directly from miles. i mean, they spent a lot of time together, so it makes sense. but regardless of what people say, wallace def. has his own sound
July 18th, 2008 at 04:18:27 Oh yeah, on top of everything else great here, Horace Parlan plays more piano with one hand than most people can with two. The man is Giant!
July 18th, 2008 at 04:41:26 Well, all I can say is WOW and thank you very much.
July 18th, 2008 at 05:04:25 i love Jackie McLean!
July 18th, 2008 at 05:27:24 Thats hot. Wallace sounds real good and Jackie's a given. Don't have to worry 'bout that guy coming through. Good clip all around. Shot well.
July 18th, 2008 at 05:50:23 Jackie Mc Lean: diesen Ton gibt es nur noch in Erinnerung und Konserve. Unersetzbar: solche Musiker wachsen nicht einfach nach! Danke!!!
July 18th, 2008 at 06:13:22 this isnt a great example of how wallace sounds like miles, but whenever he goes in to a long or half time passage, the sound really simmilar
July 18th, 2008 at 06:36:21 looks like Japan, 1988; the piece was originally recorded on the "Jackie's Bag" session (Blue Note). Jackie, we miss you, man.
July 18th, 2008 at 06:59:20 Fantastic!!! When and where is this??
July 18th, 2008 at 07:22:19 If we got any love for this art form of music at all, we ALL chillin's of Miles. No outrunnin' THAT shimmering shadow, dig?
July 18th, 2008 at 07:45:18 This man sets altos on fire! **hey check out my videos if you want to see some more Jmac videos...
